Bold brows, à la Elizabeth Taylor, have been a growing trend in the last year or so, culminating in extra-bold versions on the Fall runways last season. (Bedazzled brows at Chanel, anyone?) It seems that now the trend has made it into the everyday world, because the New York Times is reporting that a growing number of women are using permanent cosmetic procedures to amp up their arches.
Eating chocolate may change the immune system in ways that aggravate acne, a small new study from the Netherlands suggests. Still, most dermatologists do not recommend dietary changes to help with acne.
Plump lips are a desirable look for many. They are a great asset if you are a model and have to get a portfolio made for you. It gives a good look if you are in the glam world. Not only that, if you are to attend a classy party or a ball, then plump lips add to your beauty. Here are some tips to make your lips look plumper: 5 Tips for Making Your Lips Look Plumper
As the body ages, perhaps not too much thought is given to the lips. Yet, the lips are often aging right along with the rest of the face, skin, and body. Women may be more likely to notice the changes to their lips, including the loss of definition, the dullness of the skin, and the depleted volume. Putting on lipstick just isn’t the same when your lips become thin and brittle. To reverse these effects and see great results, there are a few cosmetic treatments that can give your lips a lift: lip augmentation, lip advancement, a subnasal lip lift, and a corner lip lift. Read on to see which lip enhancement procedure could best help to achieve your goals for your lips.
All About Lip Augmentation
The lip augmentation procedure is designed to give patients fuller, plumper lips. It can be used to add volume back to lips that have thinned during the aging process. More commonly, however, lip augmentation procedures are performed for younger patients looking to achieve a greater level of lip volume and enhance their overall look.
Lip augmentation can be performed on the upper and lower lip either by filler injections or natural soft tissue. Common filler injections include Juvederm, Restylane, and Perlane, which can add shape, structure, and volume safely to the lips. These fillers are composed of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance found inside the body. Hyaluronic acid fillers give the surgeon control over the volume of your lips, gradual treatments to build your lip volume over multiple visits, and a reduced risk of allergic reaction, among other benefits. Filler injections tend to last around six months or longer when used in the lip area.
Other lip augmentations are performed using natural soft tissue, such as fat transfer or SMAS. With fat transfer, plastic surgeons are able to collect fat cells from another area of the body and transfer them into the lips by injection. The specifics of this procedure will be determined by your plastic surgeon during a one-on-one consultation. Under the ideal circumstances, fat transfer can yield long-term or even permanent lip augmentation results. Regardless, the process includes only the use of substances from your own body, making the risks for rejection or a poor reaction virtually nonexistent.
All About Lip Advancement
A lip advancement procedure is performed in order to enhance the “show” of the red part of the upper and/or lower lips. This is a surgical procedure that involves taking lip tissue from the inner part of the lip and relocating it to the more visible part of the lip, increasing the show. Typically, the incisions are hidden inside the mouth to prevent visible scarring after the lip procedure. Lip advancement offers a permanently reshaped lip area without using any substances. It is ideal for patients who would like to add more pink area to their thin lips.
All About Subnasal Lip Lifts
Some people feel that the non-red portion of the lip below their nose is too long and out of balance. Others aren’t born with this lip shape, but find that it develops with age. Regardless of the patient’s age, a subnasal lip lift can correct this problem and dramatically increase the prominence of the lips. Typically, the surgery is performed using an incision below the nose. A portion of the skin is removed and the remaining skin is manipulated, rolling out the upper lip. The effect is a more red-lip prominent mouth, a wider smile, and a little bit of a pouty appearance. A subnasal lip lift is best for candidates with thinner lips and a wider-than-average space between the nasal area and upper edge of the top lip.
All About Corner Lip Lifts
Finally, the corner lip lift is another surgical procedure that maneuvers the mouth to make the lips appear more prominent. In this procedure, a tiny amount of skin is removed from each corner of the mouth. The surgeon then works to raise the corners of the mouth into a natural upturn. The corner lip lift surgery is best served for patients who have naturally down-turned corners of the mouth and would like a better position that enhances their mouth. As a side effect, this surgery can also leave patients looking happier just by changing the direction of the corners of the mouth.
How to Choose Your Lip Enhancement Procedure
As you’re making your decision about which lip enhancement technique to use, it is important to consider whether your primary goal is to restore volume to your lips, to allow for more of the red part of your lips to show, or to improve a downturned smile. Lip augmentation is a procedure designed to restore volume to the lips, while other techniques are designed to allow more of the red part of the lips to show or turn up the corners of the mouth. Discuss your options in detail with your plastic surgeon during a one-on-one lip enhancement consultation. He can provide expert advice based on his analysis of the particular features of your lips, the proportions of your face, and your individual needs.

I consider myself a skincare junkie—so face peels, which help remove the dead top layers of skin—have always been my jam. But we know that the idea of, um, peeling away parts of your face can be just a tiny bit intimidating. (Anyone who’s seen that episode of Sex and City where Samantha…
Just found an English version of the Rambam clinic ad I referred to in my last post. No more doubts. It’s an ad for plastic surgery well done rather than against plastic surgery simpliciter.
